MACC sets up committee to oversee flood fund management – Bernama


The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has set up a Flood Fund Management Integrity Committee to ensure the management of flood funds by the government and non-govermental organisations is transparent and free from fraud.MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed (pic) said the committee would begin operations tomorrow to investigate all complaints and information on misconduct in the management of flood funds.He said the committee was headed by MACC deputy chief commissioner (prevention) Datuk Mustafar Ali."Others in the committee are members of the National Security Council (NSC) and National Audit Department," he told a media conference in Kuala Lumpur today.Earlier, the MACC, NSC and the Audit Department signed a memorandum of understanding.Present were NSC secretary Datuk Mohamed Thajudeen Abdul Wahab and deputy auditor-general, Datuk Anwari Suri.Abu Kassim said the committee would also look at improving integrity in aid delivery and management system for flood victims. He said an operations room had been set up at the MACC office in Kelantan to serve as a special team to investigate all complaints of abuse.Members of the public can contact the operations room via 019-2849134, 019-2849234 or 019-2849389. "A complaint on assistance not reaching the desired place or money being siphoned by certain parties will be investigated under the Prevention of Corruption Act.   "Cases of falsifying documents to obtain aid will be investigated under the Penal Code," said Abu Kassim. – Bernama, January 12, 2015.
