The Kampung Baru bridge in Bentong, Pahang, is temporarily closed to traffic due to serious soil erosion caused by strong currents following heavy rain last night.Bentong district police chief, Supt Mohamad Mansor Mohd Nor, said the temporary closure was with immediate effect until a date to be announced later."There is serious soil erosion at the location which has been confirmed to be not safe for all road users."They can pass through Bentong to get to Raub by alternatively using the Bentong-Karak Highway-Cinta Manis-Sertik-Mempaga, Lebu-Raub or Sertik-Krau, Raub route," he said in a statement today.Meanwhile, the number of flood evacuees at the relief centres in Pahang, Perak and Johor has dropped this afternoon, while the number in Kelantan has remained the same since morning.Pahang has recorded a drop to 5,184 from 5,256 evacuees this morning, Perak to 2,572 from 2,661 and Johor to 32 from 63.The total number of evacuees in the affected states has reduced to 10,154 this afternoon from 10,346 in the morning.A spokesman for the Pahang police contingent headquarters' flood operations room said 29 relief centres were still operating with Pekan district housing 2,675 evacuees, Kuantan (888), Maran (848), Temerloh (437), Rompin (262) and Bera (47).In Perak, a state National Security Council (MKN) spokesman said 14 relief centres were still open, housing 1,891 flood evacuees in Perak Tengah, 450 in Hilir Perak, 155 in Manjung and 76 in Hulu.In Johor, the state Disaster Operations Control Centre said the Jabi-Bukit Tempurung road in Segamat which was earlier cut off, could now be used again. – Bernama, January 11, 2015.
